About Lucy’s Acupuncture

Inspired by her own pregnancy and early motherhood, Lucy decided to specifically focus her skills on supporting women to look, feel and be healthy during times of transition and uncertainty.

In each session, Lucy will take you through a full consultation before choosing a treatment method that could include: Acupuncture | Tui-Na | Cupping | Moxibustion | Acupressure | Gua Sha

Lucy provides aftercare advice that includes food therapy, breathing techniques and light exercises.

Sessions last around 1.5 hours.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is an ancient technique that has been used for over 3000 years as a method of natural and holistic healing. It involves the use of extremely fine, single use, sterile needles that are inserted into specific points of the body.  These needles are left in for around 20-30 minutes and are stimulated to achieve sensation.

Our health depends on qi (vital energy) and blood moving with ease and balance throughout channels within our body. When the flow of qi and blood is out of balance health complications can occur. Acupuncture stimulates the body’s self-healing process by bringing balance back to the qi and blood, which in turn allows the body and its organs to return to a state of equilibrium and harmony.

The flow of qi and blood can be affected by many factors including, poor nutrition, trauma, accidents, grief, anger, infections and hereditary factors.

Tui-Na

Tui-Na is known as Chinese medical massage and uses hands on techniques either through clothing, or using oil as a base. It is often used to treat musculoskeletal injuries and pain in a similar way to physiotherapy, osteopathy and chiropractic . However, Tu-Na is also used as a holistic medical system too and can treat much more than aches and pains, including gynaecology issues as well as mental and emotional conditions such as depression and anxiety.

Lucy often gives Tui-Na alongside an acupuncture treatment but it can also be given as a standalone treatment.

Cupping

Cupping involves placing cups on the skin to create suction either with a suction gun or flame. By doing this, the skin and blood vessels are drawn into the cup, which enables qi, blood and body fluids to move freely. Cupping loosens tight muscles, fascia and joints, it improves circulation and helps to reduce swelling and inflammation.

Lucy regularly uses cupping in conjunction with Tui-Na and/or acupuncture. Cups are left on the skin for around 5-15 minutes.

It should be noted that cupping does cause marks to the skin that can take up to a week (sometimes more) to fade away.
